FARM DESCRIPTION

Seeds Farm is a 50-acre organic farm in Northfield, Minnesota which grows 18 acres of certified organic and GAP vegetables for wholesale accounts, including food coops, restaurants, distributors, cafeterias, public schools, multi-farm CSAs, and food shelves. We are two miles south from downtown Northfield, a town of 20,000 people, and 45 minutes south of the Twin Cities. Seeds Farm is woman owned and managed by Becca Carlson and has been in operation since 2010. We strive for the triple bottom line of sustainability; social, environmental, and financial.

Our 18 acres of vegetables include 1/3 acre of high tunnels for season extension. We grow in bare soil as well as raised plastic beds (experimenting with mulched straw in-between). We host monthly Dinner at the Farms, open for the public to come out to the farm and enjoy a locally made meal from our veggies, community, and music. We love farming and try hard to cultivate a fun and meaningful workplace.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

SEEDS FARM IS HIRING FOR MULTIPLE POSITIONS.

  • General Farm Crew (3 positions)

  • Packshed Manager (1 position)

  • Harvest Crew (2 positions)

PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL DESCRIPTION

Packshed Manager $16-17/hr DOE

The packshed manager is in charge of the operations in the packshed. PM will receive product from the field and ensure that it is washed properly and safely, packed, labeled, and sent out in a timely manner. Seeds Farm has GAP food safety certification and PM should either have, or be willing to get, a food safety certification (Seeds Farm would cover the cost of the course). Attention to detail and efficiency is a must for this position, as well as leadership and management of other folks on the packshed team. The PM will be in the packshed 1-3 days a week, depending on the harvest and time of year, and will work with the general crew the rest of the week. PM will work closely with the harvest manager and farm manager to ensure the right amount of the right quality of produce gets out to the right customer.

This position starts in April and goes through November, depending on the season.

General Farm Crew $15-16/hr DOE (3 positions)

These three positions span the gamut of tasks on a diverse vegetable farm, which keeps work exciting! Very few days are similar. On a wholesale vegetable farm, the Farm Crew will spend their days caring for vegetables from all stages from seed to delivery.

We all work hard on this farm, there will be days where we harvest peppers all day. But there are also days that are more diverse  where we may trellis tomatoes for a few hours, plant seeds in the greenhouse for a few hours, and cultivate a field of squash after lunch.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate would be self motivated, open minded, positive, a team player, and a good problem solver. Experience in all aspects of farming is not required, as long as there is a strong aptitude to learn.

This position starts in late April/early May-October/November depending on the season

Harvest Crew $15/hr (2 positions)

Come work with us to bring in the harvest! This job is primarily a harvest position, however the harvest crew will also work in general farm-related tasks as well such as trelissing in the high tunnel, washing vegetables in the packshed, cultivation, farm clean up, etc. Seeds Farm works an 8-9 hour day with a 45 min unpaid lunch, though there are *few* times we expect the crew to work a few extra hours if the weather requires us to. We will do our best to communicate this ahead of time, but it may come up last minute (for example getting the onions harvested before the forecasted rain).  We expect our crew to work in all weather conditions, rain or shine, hot or cold. Farmers are encouraged to take veggies home to enjoy!

This position starts in June-September/October
